The literary world and Ghana mourn the loss of Professor Ama Ata Aidoo, a celebrated author and playwright, whose passing was announced today in Accra.

The legendary writer, known for her immense contributions to African literature, passed away in the early hours of May 31, 2023, as confirmed by a statement from her family.

In a heartfelt announcement, the family expressed their deep sorrow and shared the news of Prof. Aidoo’s demise after a brief illness. The statement read.

“The Family of PROF. AMA ATA AIDOO, with deep sorrow but in the hope of the resurrection, informs the general public that our beloved relative and writer passed away in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 31st May 2023, after a short illness.”
